Who attends Drum Lessons? Anyone who is interested in playing. We have had a complete age range coming for lessons over the years from children around years 8 -9 having their first introduction to drumming to adults who have never played before but have always wanted to give it a try. Drum lessons are all one to one. We have a wide range of abilities, standards and age ranges coming along. We have had drummers who started from basics and who are now playing in bands, some of whom have taken 'grades' with either 'Rock School' or Guildhall School of Music' syllabuses. As well as drum kit we teach various 'World Music' styles and drums such as Conga's from Cuba and Brazil and the African 'Djembe'. The standard drum kit however is always the most popular. |
What do we teach? We teach basic ' beats' or rhythm's to beginners, we teach the standard drum rudiments, independence, drum notation, reading skills, different styles of drumming etc. We have lots of play along material in many different styles so the drummer can put on the headphones and find him her self in a band situation, playing along with a recording. There is no substitute for playing with live musicians of course, but this is an excellent starting point to develop a good sense of time, rhythm, and feel for the instrument. We can deal with specific styles for the more advanced student and tailor the lessons to their needs, for example we can deal with: Rock, Jazz, Jazz/Rock, Hip Hop, Funk, Blues, or listen to favourite bands of the pupil and work on the drumming style.
